A Responsibility Pioneer Contd...

(Refer Exhibit I for the top ten Responsibility Pioneers - Time Magazine). Living Goods started operating in Uganda in 2007 with a partner, Building Resources Across Communities (BRAC)4. BRAC was running several microfinance programs in the country. Living Goods selected a few women who were a part of BRAC's microfinance programs and trained them to function as Community Health Promoters (CHP). CHPs were given a small loan from BRAC, and were trained by Living Goods. Using the loan, they procured essential medicines, mosquito nets, personal hygiene products and other healthcare products. They sold these products in their communities, door-to-door at a marginal profit.

Living Goods focused on few diseases like malaria, diarrheal disease, worms and tuberculosis (TB). These diseases accounted for two-thirds of mortality in Uganda and could be treated at low cost...
